Million Dollar Baked Tortellini

Million Dollar Baked Tortellini is a layered pasta casserole featuring cheese tortellini, browned ground beef simmered in marinara, and a creamy cheese blend topped with mozzarella and Parmesan. Baking the dish yields a bubbly, cheesy top and a rich, savory filling that combines tender pasta with a flavorful meat sauce and creamy cheeses for a hearty meal.

Description

This recipe starts by cooking fresh or frozen cheese tortellini just short of the package's recommended time to avoid overcooking during baking. Ground beef is browned with minced garlic, then simmered with marinara sauce to develop a seasoned meat component. The tortellini is drained and mixed into the meat sauce for even coating.

The creamy layer is made by combining room temperature cream cheese, ricotta, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt, which adds a rich, tangy contrast to the meatiness below. The dish is assembled by layering half of the tortellini mixture, then the cheese blend, and remaining tortellini topped with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Covered and baked, then uncovered near the end, the cheese melts and browns nicely.

Before serving, fresh minced parsley adds a bright, fresh finish. This casserole is a comforting main dish suitable for family dinners. Variations include adding diced onions or substituting cottage cheese for ricotta based on preference. Using a quality marinara sauce enhances the flavor.

  • For extra flavor, diced onion can be browned with the ground beef if desired.
  • Cottage cheese can be substituted for ricotta cheese without compromising taste.
