Mini Cheese and Spinach Tartlets
Description
Mini Cheese and Spinach Tartlets start with individual squares of thawed puff pastry pressed into a mini muffin pan lining the cups. The filling blends cream cheese at room temperature with grated Parmesan, feta cheese, crispy bacon bits, garlic powder, and freshly ground black pepper until even in texture.
Shredded fresh spinach is folded into the cheese mixture to add color and freshness. Spoonfuls of the filling are placed into each pastry cup, which then bake at 400°F for 20-25 minutes until the pastry edges and tops turn light golden brown.
These tartlets have a crisp, flaky crust complementing the dense, creamy filling with savory and slightly salty flavors from the cheeses and bacon. Served warm, they are suitable for appetizers, brunch, or finger food at gatherings.
Ensuring that cream cheese is at room temperature helps create a smooth filling. Avoid overfilling the pastry cups to maintain shape. Monitor the bake closely to achieve a golden finish without drying out. Loosen tartlets gently to remove from the pan for serving.
Ingredients
- 1 puff pastry thawed, roll
- 2 cups spinach shredded, fresh
- 8 oz cream cheese room temperature
- ½ cup Parmesan Cheese
- ½ cup feta cheese
- ½ cup bacon bits
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400° F. Grease your mini muffin pan and set it aside.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese, parmesan cheese, feta cheese, bacon bits, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Mix until well incorporated.
- Add in the shredded spinach and mix until it's evenly dispersed in the cheese mixture. Set aside.
- Unfold the puff pastry on a clean work surface and cut it along the fold marks to make thirds. Cut each third in half lengthwise, then cut each long piece of puff pastry into 1-inch squares, for a total of 24 square pieces.
- Place one puff pastry square cutout in each mini muffin cup.
- Fill each cup with a spoonful of the spinach and cheese mixture.
- Pop the muffin pan into the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tartlets are golden brown.
- Once baked, use a butter knife to loosen the edges of the tartlets and pop them out of the muffin cups.
- Serve the spinach tartlets warm. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use room temperature cream cheese for a smooth, creamy filling texture.
- Distribute the spinach and cheese filling evenly to avoid overfilling tartlet shells.
- Watch the tartlets near the end of baking to remove when they reach a light golden color and avoid dryness.
