M&M Cookie Recipe

M&M Cookie Recipe produces classic cookies made with melted butter, packed brown sugar, and a mix of eggs to create a rich, tender dough studded with colorful M&M candies. Chilling the dough before baking helps develop flavor and texture, resulting in soft-centered cookies with slightly crisp edges after baking at 350°F. These cookies balance sweetness and crunch of the candies, delivering a familiar favorite treat.

Description

This M&M Cookie Recipe uses melted butter combined with brown and granulated sugars to create a moist and flavorful base. The inclusion of both an egg and an extra yolk adds richness and contributes to a softer texture. Dry ingredients include all-purpose flour, cornstarch for tenderness, baking soda, baking powder, and salt to help leaven and season the cookies evenly.

After mixing the wet and dry components, colorful M&M candies are folded into the dough, which is then chilled for at least 45 minutes to firm up. This step is essential to control spread during baking and to improve overall texture. The dough is portioned into 2-tablespoon balls placed spaced apart on parchment-lined sheets. Baking at 350°F for 10-11 minutes yields cookies with centers that remain slightly underbaked but set as they cool on the sheets, preserving softness.

The cookies are perfect for packing in lunchboxes or serving as an anytime snack that offers a nostalgic chocolatey crunch. Storing in an airtight container at room temperature keeps them fresh for up to five days.

  • 1 ¼ cup brown sugar tightly packed
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 egg large plus 1 yolk, room temperature preferred
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Combine melted butter and sugars in a large bowl and stir until well-combined.
  2. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract and stir well.
  3. In a separate, medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet and mix until combined.
  5. Use a spatula to stir M&M candies into the cookie dough
  6. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and transfer to the refrigerator to chill for at least 45 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350F (175C) and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Once oven has preheated, remove your chilled cookie dough from the fridge and roll dough into approximately 2 Tablespoon-sized scoops. Roll gently to form a ball and place on prepared cookie sheet (space cookies at least 2" apart).
  9. Bake on 350F (175C) for 10-11 minutes, centers of the cookies may still seem slightly underbaked -- allow cookies to cool completely on cookie sheet to finish cooking there, this will help keep them nice and soft.

Notes

  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days to maintain freshness and softness.
