Moist Chocolate Bread with Bourbon Glaze
Description
The Moist Chocolate Bread with Bourbon Glaze features a chocolate-infused quick bread made tender by the use of applesauce and buttermilk. The combination of butter, vegetable oil, and sugar creamed with eggs provides richness and a soft texture, while the cocoa and baking soda offer a deeper chocolate flavor and proper rise. Baking at a moderate temperature allows the bread to bake evenly through one hour until a toothpick comes out clean.
The bourbon glaze adds a glossy sweetness with subtle spirit notes. Made by melting butter and mixing in sugars, condensed milk, and bourbon, it complements the chocolate flavor without overwhelming it. This glaze can be drizzled or spread over slices for serving.
Store the cooled bread in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for longer storage. The bread can be baked ahead and makes a thoughtful gift when dry ingredients are pre-measured in a jar. Homemade buttermilk can be substituted by adding vinegar to milk if needed.
