Molten Chocolate Cake
Description
The Molten Chocolate Cake recipe starts by melting semi-sweet baking chocolate with butter until smooth. Powdered sugar is mixed in, followed by eggs and egg yolks for richness. Flour and cocoa powder are incorporated last to add structure and deepen the chocolate flavor. The batter is divided into greased ramekins and baked at a high temperature for about 13 minutes to achieve a firm exterior while maintaining the iconic soft, jiggly center upon flipping.
This dessert delivers a textural contrast where the edges are lightly set and cake-like, while the middle remains molten and flowing chocolate. It's best served shortly after baking to enjoy the warm, creamy core. Powdered sugar can be dusted on top for a simple finish.
Molten Chocolate Cake pairs well with vanilla ice cream or fresh berries to balance its intense chocolate richness. The cake can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving to preserve its molten texture.
Using butter and cocoa powder to grease the ramekins enhances flavor and prevents sticking better than standard nonstick spray. Precise timing in the oven is key to achieving the right consistency.
