Monte Cristo Breakfast Casserole

Monte Cristo Breakfast Casserole layers cubed French bread with turkey, ham, Swiss, and cheddar cheeses in a rich egg and milk custard. After an hour resting and baking until golden, the casserole is dusted with confectioners' sugar and served with raspberry preserves for a sweet and savory brunch dish.

Description

This casserole builds flavor by layering bread cubes with diced turkey and ham, plus shredded Swiss and cheddar cheeses. The layers are soaked with a mixture of eggs and whole milk, allowing the bread to absorb the custard mixture. Refrigeration for at least one hour helps the flavors meld and the custard set.

Baking until golden brown and firm, the casserole develops a tender but structured texture. The dusting of confectioners' sugar adds a subtle sweetness that contrasts with the savory meats and cheese, and serving with raspberry preserves introduces a tart, fruity element.

Ideal for brunch or breakfast gatherings, this casserole can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking, making it useful for hosting or busy mornings.
