Moqueca Baiana de Peixe com Camarão

Moqueca Baiana de Peixe com Camarão is a Brazilian seafood stew featuring fish fillets and shrimp cooked in a coconut milk and palm oil broth with bell peppers, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and spices like cumin and malagueta pepper. The dish is creamy and aromatic with a balance of heat and citrus from lime.

Description

This moqueca begins by seasoning fish fillets and peeled shrimp with salt, ground black pepper, and cumin. Vegetables including sliced bell peppers, onions, garlic, and tomatoes are sautéed and then blended with coconut milk and dissolved soup cube to form a creamy sauce. Fish fillets are lightly cooked before adding the sauce with palm oil and malagueta pepper, bringing richness and spice.

The stew simmers gently to meld flavors and soften the seafood. Shrimp and reserved vegetable slices are added near the end to avoid overcooking shrimp. A squeeze of lime and chopped cilantro finish the dish, adding brightness and herbal notes. The result is a colorful, hearty seafood stew with a creamy base and layers of flavor.

This recipe serves eight and should be stored refrigerated for up to 2-3 days. While freezing is possible, it is not recommended as the seafood texture and coconut sauce quality may degrade upon reheating.
