Ninja Foodi Pulled Pork

This Ninja Foodi Pulled Pork recipe uses a pork shoulder rubbed with a dry spice blend, briefly air-fried, then pressure-cooked with apple cider to yield tender, flavorful pulled pork. The combination of spices including brown sugar, paprika, garlic, and cumin forms a sweet and savory crust. After cooking, the pork is shredded and tossed with barbecue sauce, creating a rich, moist pulled pork perfect for sandwiches or plates.

Description

Start by scoring a 1.3 kg pork shoulder and rubbing it with a mix of brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Coat with olive oil before air frying the pork shoulder in a Ninja Foodi at 200°C for short intervals on each side. This step adds a caramelized crust to the meat.

Next, pressure cook the pork with apple cider and the remaining dry rub in the Ninja Foodi's cooking pot. Pressure cooking breaks down the connective tissue, resulting in tender meat that is easily shredded. After resting briefly, the pork is pulled apart using meat claws and coated with barbecue sauce for additional moisture and flavor.

The method yields pulled pork with a balanced sweet-spicy crust, juicy interior, and saucy finish suitable for a variety of meals.

The recipe recommends reserving leftover cooking liquid to use for stock or gravy. Barbecue sauce choices are flexible according to taste. Adding side dishes like baked potatoes can complement the pulled pork meal.

Ingredients

Servings

Kitchen Gadgets:

  • Ninja Foodi
  • meat claws

Ninja Foodi Pulled Pork Ingredients:

  • 1.3 kg pork shoulder
  • 2 Tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 Tbsp barbecue sauce
  • 100 ml apple cider

Pulled Pork Seasoning:

  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp paprika
  • 2 Tsp garlic powder
  • 2 Tsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp mustard powder
  • 2 Tsp cumin
  • salt
  • black pepper

Instructions

  1. Load your seasonings into a mixing bowl and mix well. Also score your pork shoulder.
  2. Place your air fryer basket into your Ninja Foodi and load it up with your pork shoulder. Rub extra virgin olive oil onto the top and then rub it with the dried rub. Air fry for 8 minutes at 200c/400f.
  3. When the air fryer beeps turn the pork shoulder over and do the same thing again and cook for a further 7 minutes at 200c/400f.
  4. When it beeps remove the air fryer from the Ninja Foodi. Load 1 cup of water to your Ninja Foodi cooking pot and mix with apple cider and the last of your dried rub.
  5. Place the pork shoulder over the liquid and pressure cook for 1 hour. After a 10 minute natural pressure release, release the remaining pressure.
  6. Allow the pork to sit for 10 minutes before shredding with meat claws and tossing in barbecue sauce.

Notes

  • Because the pork is air-fried first, the Ninja Foodi reaches pressure quickly for cooking.
  • Save leftover cooking liquid for making pork stock or gravy in other recipes.
  • Use any barbecue sauce you prefer or make your own to suit your taste.
  • Consider serving with side dishes like baked potatoes to complete the meal.
