No-Cook Keto Tomato Sauce
Description
The No-Cook Keto Tomato Sauce relies on tomato puree as the base, enhanced with dried oregano, basil, thyme, onion flakes, and garlic powder. Red pepper flakes add subtle heat, while extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar contribute richness and brightness respectively. The ingredients are stirred together until combined, creating a herb-forward sauce without the need for simmering.
This preparation maintains a fresh tomato taste with herbal complexity. The texture is smooth since tomato puree is strained, and the dried herbs give it a concentrated aroma. The sauce is suitable as a condiment or base for dishes requiring no cooking or for quick meal assembly.
The sauce can be stored sealed in the refrigerator. Adjusting sweetness with a keto-compatible sweetener may help balance the natural acidity of tomato puree. Substitutions with fresh herbs or Italian seasoning are possible, offering customization while maintaining keto-friendly characteristics.
Ingredients
- 2 cups tomato puree or passata / strained tomatoes (16 oz)
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon oregano dried
- 1 tablespoon basil dried
- ¼ teaspoon thyme dried
- 1-2 teaspoons red pepper flakes or chili flakes
- 2 teaspoons onion flakes
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar substitute optional
Instructions
- Add all ingredients, except sweetener, to a large bowl and mix well with a spoon or whisk until combined.
- Add sweetener if needed, and more spices to taste.
- If not using it all straight away, transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate.
Notes
- If dried herbs are unavailable, use 2 tablespoons of Italian seasoning as a substitute for oregano, basil, and thyme.
- Fresh basil and minced garlic can replace dried basil and garlic powder in equal amounts if preferred.
- Use tomato puree (passata) for a smooth texture; canned crushed or whole tomatoes should be drained before use to avoid thinning the sauce.
- Adjust sweetness to taste with erythritol or another keto-friendly sweetener to balance acidity as tomato puree flavors can vary.
