Nutella Twist Pastries (3 Ingredient)
Description
This recipe uses two sheets of store-bought frozen puff pastry thawed at room temperature. Nutella is evenly spread over one sheet, then the second sheet is placed on top and gently pressed to adhere. The layered pastry is cut into 12 equal strips that are twisted multiple turns to form spirals, then rolled into a circular shape with the ends tucked underneath. An egg wash is brushed over the pastries before baking at 350°F, which gives them a glossy, golden exterior as they crisp in the oven.
The puff pastry provides flaky texture with distinct layers, contrasting with the smooth, sweet Nutella filling inside. The twisting and rolling technique creates visually appealing pastries with a balance of crispy and tender bites throughout. They bake evenly on parchment-lined sheets and can be served warm or at room temperature.
These pastries can be stored at room temperature in airtight containers for several days, reheated briefly to restore crispness, or frozen for longer storage. They are an accessible choice for homemade treats with minimal ingredients but a satisfying texture and flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 heets puff pastry thawed, frozen
- ½ cup Nutella
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat over to 350°F. Prepare two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
- Remove the store bought frozen puff pastry sheet from the freezer and allow to thaw at room temperature for a bout 15 minutes or until fully thawed. Once thawed unroll 1 sheet of pastry on a cutting board.
- Evenly spread the Nutella over the sheet of pastry.
- Unroll the second sheet of thawed puff pastry and place it directly on top of the sheet with the Nutella. Gently press the two sheets together to stick them together.
- Cut the puff pastry into 12 even strips. Tip: use a pizza cutter to mark the center of the pastry, then mark each half in the center, and continue marking the cut’s to be made until you have 12 even strips.
- Pick up a strip and carefully twist multiple times until a spiral is formed. Then roll the twisted pastry into a circle shape. Place onto the packing sheet and twist the end of the strip under the circle pastry.
- In a small bowl beat the egg. Once evenly beaten, use a brush to brush the egg over each pastry.
- Repeat until all the pastries are shaped and brushed with egg.
- Place the sheet pan in the oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Once baked, remove the sheet pan from the oven and carefully use a spatula to transfer the baked pastries to a cooling rack.
- Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy. Optional: garnish the pastries with a dusting of icing sugar before serving.
Notes
- If using unrolled puff pastry bricks, thaw and roll them evenly into flat square sheets before layering with Nutella.
- Store cooled pastries in an airtight container or sealed bag at room temperature for 4 to 5 days with slight loss of crispness.
- To refresh stored pastries, reheat in a 350°F oven for about 5 minutes to regain flakiness and warmth.
- Fully cooled pastries freeze well for up to 3 months; separate layers with parchment paper or wrap individually before freezing to prevent sticking.
- Freezer-stored pastries can be thawed at room temperature before warming slightly in the oven to restore texture.
