Old Fashioned Easy Apple Crisp
Description
This apple crisp starts with peeled, chopped apples tossed with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice to enhance their sweetness and prevent browning. The topping combines old-fashioned oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and diced cold butter, cut together into coarse crumbs. When baked, the topping forms a crunchy golden layer contrasting the soft, bubbling spiced apples below.
The dessert is baked in an 8x8 dish until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbly, making it invitingly warm and fragrant. It is commonly served warm, often with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream to add creaminess alongside the crisp textures.
Practical notes include allowing for oven variation in bake time, storing leftovers refrigerated and reheating before serving, and options to add flour to the apple mixture to reduce excess juice. The recipe serves about 6 to 7 cups of apples and can be assembled ahead or frozen according to reader experiences.
