One-bowl Small-batch Brownies

This small-batch brownie recipe produces a fudgy, rich chocolate treat using simple pantry ingredients blended in one bowl. Melted butter combines with sugar, egg, and vanilla, then mixed with flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. The batter bakes in a loaf pan to yield dense brownies with moist crumbs, suitable for a personal or small dessert portion without leftovers.

Description

The One-bowl Small-batch Brownies involve melting butter and mixing it with granulated sugar, followed by the addition of an egg and vanilla extract. Dry ingredients including all-purpose flour, sifted unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt are stirred in until just combined. No extra bowls or equipment are needed.

The batter is spread evenly in a greased or parchment-lined loaf pan and baked at 350°F for approximately 18 to 24 minutes. Baking time can be adjusted for fudgier brownies by baking closer to 16-20 minutes. The finished brownies have a dense texture, with moist crumbs that stick to a toothpick test.

After baking, the brownies should cool at least 10 minutes before slicing. The recipe yields eight small servings, ideal for a solo dessert or small group, minimizing waste and effort for fresh brownies with classic cocoa flavor.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/4 cup butter melted and slightly cooled, salted, 2 oz
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar 100g
  • 1 egg large
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 30g
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder sifted, 15g
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease and line your loaf pan with parchment paper (if you don't care about lifting the brownies out of the pan, you can skip the paper).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine slightly cooled melted butter and granulated sugar and whisk until well combined. Add egg and vanilla and mix well.
  3. Add flour, sifted cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir until just combined.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth it out so it covers most of the bottom. Bake for 18 to 24 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs. For fudgier brownies, bake for 16-20 minutes and pull them.
  5. Cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before cutting. Enjoy!
