One Chocolate Chip Cookie for Two (Three Ways)

This recipe makes a single large chocolate chip cookie suitable for two people, with three mix-in variations: Classic, Sea Salt & Caramel, and Triple Chocolate. The dough combines melted butter, sugars, vanilla, egg yolk, flour, baking soda, and salt. Each variation adds a specific mix of chocolate chips or caramel bits, resulting in a rich cookie with a tender but set top and browning edges. The cookie is baked at 350°F until mostly set and cooled slightly before enjoying.

Description

One Chocolate Chip Cookie for Two offers a compact recipe for a shareable cookie with three flavor profiles. The dough is prepared by whisking melted, slightly cooled butter with brown and granulated sugars, vanilla extract, and egg yolk, then folding in flour, baking soda, and salt. The Classic version uses semi-sweet chocolate chips, while the Sea Salt & Caramel version incorporates chopped baking caramels with a pinch of sea salt sprinkled on top before baking. The Triple Chocolate version includes cocoa powder plus semi-sweet and white chocolate chips for a richer chocolate depth.

Baked at 350°F on parchment-lined trays, the cookie is done when the top is mostly set and the edges show some browning, yielding a cookie with a tender center. Allowing it to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes sets the texture further. This small batch approach limits waste and satisfies a small sweet craving without making multiple cookies.

Precision in flour measurement is important for texture, with weighing or the spoon and sweep method recommended to avoid a dense or dry cookie. The recipe balances sugar and fats to create a tender crumb with chocolate melting through. It’s ideal when you want just one sizable cookie rather than a whole batch.
