  • 1 onion - large, peeled, rinsed and thinly sliced into rings
  • ¼ teaspoon red chili powder or cayenne pepper or as required
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon chaat masala - optional
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice or white vinegar, or add as required
  • 1 tablespoon mint leaves or coriander leaves (cilantro, chopped
  • rock salt (edible and food grade) or black salt or regular salt as required

Instructions

  1. Slice the onion into thin rings or rounds.
  2. In a bowl take the onion rings.
  3. Add red chilli powder, chaat masala and chopped mint leaves. 
  4. Also add salt as required.
  5. Then add lemon juice or vinegar.
  6. Mix together everything very well.
  7. Check the seasonings and add more salt, red chilli powder or lemon juice if required. 
  8. Serve the onion salad immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust the amounts of chili powder, chaat masala, salt, and lemon juice to suit your taste preferences.
  • Slice the onion thinly into rings or rounds for the best texture.
  • This recipe can be easily multiplied to serve more people.
