Oreo Balls

Oreo Balls combine crushed Oreo cookies mixed with cream cheese, shaped into bite-sized spheres, and coated in melted chocolate wafers. These no-bake treats offer a creamy and crunchy texture contrast, with customizable coatings and decorations for various occasions. Their richness and ease of preparation make them a popular choice for parties and quick desserts.

Description

This recipe starts by finely crushing an entire package of Oreo cookies and mixing the crumbs with softened cream cheese until smooth. The mixture is shaped into small balls and chilled briefly to firm up. After freezing, the balls are dipped into melted chocolate wafers, which harden into a glossy shell. The result is a rich bite with the familiar chocolate and vanilla cream cookie flavor balanced by the cream cheese's smoothness.

Decorations like extra Oreo crumbs, sprinkles, nuts, or crushed peppermint can be added before the chocolate coating sets to personalize the treats for holidays or themed events. Variations using different Oreo flavors or add-ins in the filling can diversify the flavor profile.

The finished Oreo Balls should be refrigerated until served and keep well for weeks in an airtight container. They freeze well too when separated by parchment paper, and thaw in the fridge before eating. Using melting wafers or almond bark provides a consistent texture and appearance compared to regular chocolate chips.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 15.25 oz package Oreos cookies (about 36 Oreos)
  • 8 oz cream cheese , room temperature
  • 16 oz chocolate melting wafers

Optional for decorating:

  • melted chocolate drizzled, crushed peppermint, chopped, shredded
  • oreo crumbs
  • Sprinkles
  • Peppermint
  • nuts
  • coconut

Instructions

  1. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. Crush Oreos: Add whole Oreo cookies to a food processor and pulse into fine crumbs (alternately, use a ziplock bag and a rolling pin to gently smash them into fine crumbs).
  3. Mix: Add cream cheese to a mixing bowl and mix it until smooth. Add Oreo crumbs (reserve 1 Tablespoon of cookie crumbs for sprinkling on top at the end, if desired). Stir to combine.
  4. Scoop the mixture into 1 Tablespoon size balls then place them on a lined baking sheet. Freeze for 15 minutes.
  5. Melt Chocolate candy wafers according to package instructions.
  6. Dip: Remove balls from freezer and dip them in melted chocolate. I like to use a fork and let excess chocolate dip through the tines of the fork, tapping it gently on the edge of the bowl, before placing on baking sheet.
  7. Chill in the fridge for at least an hour before serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
