Oreo Balls
Description
This recipe begins by finely crushing whole Oreo cookies in a food processor until crumbly, then blending them with softened cream cheese until a dough forms. The mixture is shaped into uniform 1-inch balls and frozen briefly to firm up for easier coating.
The balls are dipped in melted chocolate or candy melts, with vegetable shortening added if using chocolate chips to create a smooth coating. Excess chocolate is tapped off as each ball is coated, then decorated with sprinkles before chilling to set. The result is a rich, creamy center with a crisp, sweet outer shell.
Oreo Balls can be stored refrigerated for up to two weeks or frozen for longer preservation. Their small size and make-ahead nature make them convenient for parties or treats.
Ingredients
- 36 Oreo cookies
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- 16 ounces Candy Melts or chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening ONLY use shortening if you're using chocolate chips, you do not need to add it to candy melts
- 1/2 cup Sprinkles
Instructions
- Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until crumbs form.
- Pour the cookie crumbs into a bowl and add the cream cheese. Stir until a dough forms.
- Roll the dough into 1 inch balls. Place the balls on a sheet pan lined with parchment or a non stick baking mat.
- Freeze for 20 minutes or until firm.
- Heat the chocolate/candy melts in the microwave in 30 second increments until melted. Stir until smooth.
- If you are using chocolate chips, stir in the shortening.
- Use a fork to dip each ball in the chocolate. Tap the fork against the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate.
- Transfer each dipped ball to parchment paper and top with sprinkles. Chill the balls in the refrigerator until firm.
- Serve, or store the balls in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or freezer for up to 2 months.
Notes
- Prepare the Oreo cream cheese centers up to one day ahead and keep refrigerated before coating.
- Use a consistent measuring tool like a tablespoon or small scoop to form uniformly sized balls.
- Chill the rolled balls before dipping to help maintain shape and reduce melting during coating.
