Oreo Balls

Oreo balls are a no-bake treat made by combining finely crushed Oreo cookies with cream cheese and vanilla extract, then shaping the mixture into balls. These are chilled and dipped in melted dark and white chocolate for a smooth, rich coating. The topping of reserved cookie crumbs adds texture and decoration. They are served cold and stored refrigerated.

Description

This recipe starts by pulverizing Oreo cookies into fine crumbs for a consistent base. Softened cream cheese is mixed with the crumbs and vanilla extract, providing a creamy, slightly tangy binder. The mixture is shaped into small balls, chilled to firm up, and then dipped in melted chocolate variations. Half the balls get dark chocolate dip; the other half get white chocolate dip for variation and appeal.

Immediately after dipping, the balls are sprinkled with reserved cookie crumbs to add contrast and crunch. The coated Oreo balls are allowed to harden before serving. Keeping them chilled preserves their texture and flavor. The recipe suggests a technique to coat the balls evenly with chocolate using knives and spoons.

Storage in an airtight container in the refrigerator keeps them fresh for several days. They may also be frozen for longer storage, making them convenient for make-ahead treats or special events.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 36 Oreo cookies
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup dark chocolate melting wafers
  • 1 cup white chocolate melting wafers

Instructions

  1. Place Oreo cookies in a food processor. Pulse until they have been pulverized into fine crumbs. Set aside.
  2. In a stand mixer (or in a large bowl using an electric mixer), beat cream cheese until it is smooth.
  3. Reserve 2 Tablespoons of your cookie crumbs and add the remaining crumbs in with the cream cheese. Add vanilla extract and stir all ingredients until well-combined.
  4. Scoop Oreo mixture by 1 ½ Tablespoon and drop onto wax paper-lined cookie sheet.
  5. Place in freezer and chill for 15 minutes.
  6. Place your dark chocolate melting wafers in one small bowl and your white chocolate in another. Prepare according to instructions on packaging, heating until melted.
  7. Retrieve your Oreo balls from the freezer and dip truffles in chocolate, dipping half of the truffles in dark chocolate and half in the white chocolate¹.  Immediately after dipping each truffle, sprinkle with reserved cookie crumbs.
  8. Allow chocolate to harden before serving truffles. Keep stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Use a butter knife and spoon to coat the Oreo balls evenly with melted chocolate and to transfer them onto wax paper.
  • Store the finished Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several days to maintain freshness.
  • They can also be frozen in an airtight container for several months without losing quality.
