Oreo Brownie Trifle
Description
The Oreo Brownie Trifle builds on homemade or boxed brownies baked and cut into squares as the base layer. The pudding layer is prepared by blending instant chocolate pudding mix with vanilla, water, sweetened condensed milk, and folding in whipped topping to add creaminess and smooth texture. Layers of brownie cubes and pudding alternate, topped with more whipped topping and crumbled Oreo cookies for crunch and chocolate flavor.
This dessert features a rich chocolate flavor from brownies and pudding, balanced by the sweetness and lightness from whipped topping. The crumbled Oreos add subtle texture contrast and a familiar cookie taste. Baking the brownies ensures a chewy and dense foundation, while the pudding layer remains soft and creamy.
Prepared in a trifle bowl or clear dish, the Oreo Brownie Trifle is refrigerated for at least two hours before serving to allow layers to set. It serves about 12 and is ideal for parties or potlucks where a large, shareable dessert is desired. Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to four days.
Homemade brownies can be substituted for boxed mixes if desired. When crushing Oreos, handling them gently preserves some cookie pieces for added texture rather than turning them into fine crumbs. Sweetened condensed milk enriches the pudding, making it silkier than pudding mix alone.
Ingredients
For the brownie mix (see note 1):
- 1 (20 ounce) package brownie mix
- 2 egg
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon water
For the pudding mix:
- 1 (3.5 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (see note 2)
For the trifle:

- 12 Oreo cookies crumbled (see note 4
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease the bottom of a 9-inch by 9-inch pan. In a large bowl, combine brownie mix, eggs, oil, and water. Pour into greased pan and bake until done, about 40 minutes. Cool. Cut into 1-inch squares.
- In a large bowl, combine the pudding mix, vanilla, water, and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until smooth, then fold in 8 ounces of whipped topping. Fold until no streaks remain.
- In a trifle bowl or glass serving dish, place half of the brownies, half of the pudding mixture and 4 ounces of remaining whipped topping. Repeat layers. Garnish with crumbled Oreo cookies. Refrigerate 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- Leftovers can be covered and refrigerated for up to 4 days to maintain freshness.
- Boxed brownie mix offers convenience, but homemade brownies can be used instead without affecting the layered dessert's appeal.
- Adding sweetened condensed milk to instant pudding mix creates a richer and silkier texture.
- When crushing Oreos, gently smash them in a plastic bag to keep larger chunks for texture instead of dust-like crumbs.
