Oreo Dirt Cake
Description
The Oreo Dirt Cake begins with a crust made by combining crushed Oreo cookies with melted butter and pressing this mixture into a baking dish. A sweetened cream cheese layer is spread over the crust, followed by a smooth, thickened combination of chocolate and vanilla instant pudding made with cold milk. The top layer is light whipped cream sweetened with confectioners sugar, finished with a sprinkle of crushed Oreos for added texture and visual contrast.
The layering creates a dessert with contrasting textures: a buttery, crunchy cookie base, a creamy middle, and a fluffy whipped topping. The pudding adds sweetness and chocolate flavor, balanced by the slight tang of the cream cheese layer. Chilling the dessert for several hours allows the layers to set firmly, making it easier to serve.
Chill or freeze for about three hours before serving to allow the dirt cake to set properly.
Ingredients
- 1 .4 ounce package instant chocolate pudding mix
- 1 .4 ounce package instant vanilla pudding mix
- 30 Oreo cookies or other chocolate sandwich cookies, divided
- 8 tbsp butter salted, melted
- 3 cups milk whole, cold
- 8 ounces cream cheese room temperature
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tbsp confectioners sugar
Instructions
- Lightly butter or spray a 8x8 inch baking dish and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, use a hand-held mixer to blend together the chocolate pudding mix, vanilla pudding mix, and cold milk until thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Crush 20 of the cookies into small pieces and add to a large mixing bowl. Pour the melted butter over the cookies and use a fork to mix until well-combined. Press the mixture into the bottom of prepared baking dish to form a crust.
- In a medium mixing bowl add the cream cheese and granulated sugar. Use a hand-held mixer to combine. Spread the mixture evenly over the cookie crust.
- Spread the pudding mixture evenly over the cream cheese layer.
- In another medium mixing bowl add the whipping cream and confectioner’s sugar. Use a hand-held mixer to beat the cream until stiff peaks form. Spread the whipped cream mixture over the pudding layer.
- Crush the remaining 10 Oreo cookies and sprinkle them over the top of the dessert. Chill or freeze for 3 hours before cutting into squares and serving. *If you freeze the dessert, allow it to sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before cutting.
