Oreo Dirt Pudding Parfaits
Description
This dessert combines chocolate instant pudding set to a soft firmness with a cream cheese and whipped topping blend sweetened by powdered sugar. Crushed Oreos mixed with melted butter form a crumbly base and topping, providing a cookie crust that adds texture and flavor contrast.
Layering these components in glasses or jars creates visually appealing parfaits that can be served individually. The dessert's playful look and combination of textures make it popular for gatherings and children's parties.
The recipe allows making a vanilla variant by substituting vanilla pudding and golden Oreos. Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to four days when covered. For best texture, sprinkle cookie crumbs just before serving rather than in advance.
Ingredients
- 5.9 ounces chocolate instant pudding mix
- 2.5 cups milk
- 36 Oreo cookies one regular sized package
- 4 tablespoons butter melted
- 16 ounces whipped topping
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Begin by making the chocolate pudding (mix the pudding mix with the milk). Set aside in the refrigerator to set up (5 mins).
- Crush the oreos in a food processor, or Ziploc bag and rolling pin, set aside about half a cup for sprinkling.
- Mix the remaining cookie crumbs with the melted butter, and divide among 8 jars, glasses or cups.
- Tamp down (I use a shot glass) to form a crust.
- Beat half the whipped topping, cream cheese and powdered sugar together until fully blended.
- Dollop on top of the cookie crumbs in each glass and smooth a little.
- Top with chocolate pudding and smooth a little.
- Add the remaining whipped topping to each glass, and then sprinkle the remaining cookie crumbs over the top.
- Refrigerate until dessert time.
- Devour!
Notes
- Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days to maintain freshness.
- To make a vanilla version, substitute golden Oreos and vanilla or banana pudding while keeping other ingredients the same.
- If fewer servings are needed, assemble the dessert in one large dish and serve with a spoon instead of individual glasses.
- For best texture, sprinkle extra cookie crumbs on top just before serving rather than in advance.
