Oreo Magic Bars

Oreo Magic Bars combine layers of crushed Oreo cookies, melted butter, sweetened condensed milk, and a mix of semi-sweet chocolate chips and butterscotch chips. The preparation involves creating a crust from cookie crumbs and melted butter, topped with sweet condensed milk and chocolate chips, then baked until golden and set. This dessert offers a chewy, rich bar with varied textures from the cookie crust and chips, ideal for a sweet treat or casual dessert gathering.

Description

The Oreo Magic Bars recipe builds on a buttery crust made from crushed Oreo cookies pressed into a baking dish. The crust is moistened with melted butter then covered evenly with sweetened condensed milk, which helps bind the layers and adds sweetness. Semi-sweet chocolate chips and butterscotch chips add bursts of chocolatey and caramel flavors, while additional crushed Oreos sprinkled on top contribute texture contrasts. Baking until the edges turn golden brown ensures a firm, chewy bar with a crisp edge and a tender center.

These bars are convenient for making ahead of time and are suitable for dessert or a snack. The combination of familiar Oreo cookies with classic baking ingredients creates a rich, indulgent dessert that balances sweetness and texture.

Using both finely crushed and roughly crushed Oreos creates a varied texture throughout the bar. Pressing the crust firmly before adding the other layers helps in achieving a sturdy base that holds the toppings well during baking. Allowing the bars to cool before cutting ensures cleaner slices and better bar structure.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ½ cup butter melted
  • 36 Oreo cookies
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 6 ounces butterscotch chips

Instructions

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and greasing a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Place approximately 18 Oreos in a food processor and pulse until they are crushed into fine crumbs. Place the remaining Oreos in a gallon-size plastic bag and seal it. Use a mallet or rolling pin to roughly crush the cookies, leaving lots of big chunks.
  3. Melt the butter and pour over the bottom of the baking dish. Make sure it completely covers the bottom.
  4. Sprinkle the Oreo crumbs over the butter, creating an even layer. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of the baking dish to create a crust.
  5. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the Oreo crust.
  6. Sprinkle a generous amount of chocolate chips and butterscotch chips on top. Then sprinkle the crushed Oreo pieces over the chocolate and butterscotch chips.
  7. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Once done baking, remove the Oreo Magic Bars from the oven and allow them to cool completely before placing them in the refrigerator to chill for at least 12 hours.
  9. About an hour before you are ready to serve them, take them out of the refrigerator to let them soften slightly. When ready to serve, cut bars into 16 squares and enjoy!
