Oreo Truffles
Description
The recipe begins by finely crushing Oreo cookies into crumbs and mixing them thoroughly with softened cream cheese until fully blended. The mixture is shaped into small balls and frozen to firm up. Milk chocolate is carefully melted in short bursts to avoid burning, then the chilled balls are dipped until fully covered. Once dipped, the truffles are set at room temperature until the coating fully hardens.
The combination yields a rich, creamy interior with Oreo crunch and sweet, smooth chocolate outer layers. Adding drizzles or decorations of white chocolate enhances both flavor contrast and presentation.
Truffles are stored refrigerated between layers of wax or parchment paper in an airtight container to maintain their shape and freshness. Using a special fork to dip helps manage the truffles easily without smudging.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Oreo cookies (1 package) or Mint Oreo Cookies
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1 1/2 pounds milk chocolate
- 4 ounces white chocolate optional for decorating, bark form
Instructions
- Crush cookies until crumbs in food processor. Place crumbs to medium-sized bowl, add softened cream cheese and mix until blended. Roll into 1 inch balls. Place on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper and freeze for at least 3 hours.
- Break chocolate into pieces and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time at 30-40% power, stirring each time.
- When chocolate is melted, remove chocolate balls from freezer and dip into the chocolate. Place dipped chocolates back on the wax paper and leave out at room temperature until chocolate is set.
- Once chocolate is set, store truffles in an airtight container lined with wax paper and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Optional: to decorate, melt white chocolate just as you did the milk chocolate above. Place melted chocolate in a small Ziploc bag and cut off the very bottom tip of the bag (make a VERY tiny cut). Gently press chocolate through the hole to create lines or designs over the chocolate truffles.
Notes
- Mix Oreo crumbs and softened cream cheese thoroughly by hand or mixer before shaping.
- Freeze shaped truffles at least 3 hours for firm centers before dipping in chocolate.
- Dip with a two-pronged fork to ease coating and placement without damage.
- Decorate with melted white chocolate by drizzling after chocolate sets for added design.
- Store truffles refrigerated in an airtight container lined with wax paper to maintain texture.
