Oven-Baked Ribs With Honey-Garlic Glaze

Oven-Baked Ribs With Honey-Garlic Glaze feature pork loin back ribs seasoned with Chinese five-spice and slow-roasted at low temperature until tender. They are finished under the broiler brushed with a sweet and savory glaze made from honey, chicken broth, vinegar, coconut aminos, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic, resulting in sticky, flavorful ribs with a balance of spice, sweetness, and umami.

Description

This recipe starts by rubbing the pork ribs with Chinese five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper, then wrapping them tightly in foil and refrigerating overnight to infuse flavor. The ribs are then roasted covered at a low temperature (250°F) for about three hours until they are tender and easily pull away from the bone.

The glaze combines honey, chicken broth, white vinegar, coconut aminos (or soy sauce), sesame oil, diced fresh ginger, and minced garlic. It is boiled and reduced slightly to intensify flavors, then cooled. Once the ribs are roasted, they are flipped meat side up, brushed with half the glaze, and broiled briefly to caramelize the glaze and develop a sticky coating.

Garnishes of cilantro and diced green onions add color and fresh herbal notes. The slow roasting method produces tender ribs with a pronounced flavor from the five-spice, enhanced by the sweet, garlicky glaze that caramelizes beautifully for a balanced taste and appealing presentation. This recipe suits those aiming for tender, flavorful ribs without grilling.

Ingredients

Servings

For The Ribs:

  • 1 pork loin back ribs membrane removed, rack
  • 4 teaspoons Chinese five-spice
  • salt
  • black pepper

For The Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons coconut aminos or soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoon ginger diced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced
  • cilantro for garnish
  • green onion for garnish, diced

Instructions

  1. Place the rack of ribs on a large piece of tinfoil and rub with the Chinese 5-spice (about 2 teaspoons per side) and salt and pepper. Wrap tightly in the foil and refrigerate overnight.
  2. The next day, preheat your oven to 250°F and line a roasting pan with tinfoil. Place a large cooling rack in the center.
  3. Place the ribs, bone side up, into the roasting pan and cover the pan tightly with tinfoil. Roast until the ribs are tender and fall off the bone, about 3 hours.
  4. While the ribs cook, combine all of the sauce ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil on high heat. Then boil the sauce, stirring constantly, until it just begins to reduce, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, cover, and let cool to room temperature.
  5. Once the ribs are cooked, remove them from the oven and preheat your broiler for 5 minutes. Once the broiler is heated, flip the ribs over so that the meaty side is up, and brush generously with half of the cooled glaze.
  6. Place the ribs under the broiler and cook until a nice crust forms, about 5-6 minutes.
  7. Remove the ribs from the oven and brush with the remaining glaze. Cover the pan with tinfoil, and let the ribs rest for 10 minutes.
  8. Serve.
