Oven Roasted Frozen Broccoli
Description
This recipe uses frozen broccoli florets spread on a parchment-lined baking sheet, drizzled with olive oil, and sprinkled with Montreal steak seasoning, which adds a robust, savory flavor. The florets are roasted at 400°F for about 30 minutes, stirring halfway to redistribute seasonings and expose all sides to heat. This technique develops browned, slightly crispy tips while maintaining tender centers, enhancing texture and flavor.
Serving immediately after roasting preserves the best texture. The simplicity of ingredients and straightforward method make this a convenient vegetable side that requires minimal prep.
The recipe is best made in small batches (2-3 servings) for optimal texture but can be doubled if space allows on the baking sheet.
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb. broccoli floret $1.00, frozen
- 1 Tbsp olive oil $0.16
- 1/2 Tbsp Montreal steak seasoning $0.07
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the frozen florets out over the baking sheet (no need to thaw).
- Drizzle the olive oil over the florets, then sprinkle the Montreal steak seasoning over top. Toss the florets in the oil and seasoning until everything is evenly distributed (it's okay if a lot of it falls onto the baking sheet, it will be stirred and redistributed again later).
- Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and roast for 20 minutes. Take the baking sheet out and use a spatula to stir the broccoli and redistribute the oil and spices. Return the baking sheet to the oven and roast for another 10 minutes, or until the broccoli develops the amount of brownness desired. Serve hot.
Notes
- This recipe is designed for small batches of 2-3 servings to ensure optimal roasting and texture.
- The roasting method works directly with frozen broccoli; no need to thaw beforehand.
- Stirring halfway through cooking redistributes oil and seasoning for even browning.
- The broccoli is best served hot as it will lose crispness if left to cool.
- You can double the recipe if you have enough baking sheet space to avoid overcrowding.
