Panda Express Chow Mein Copycat

This Panda Express Chow Mein Copycat recipe recreates the stir-fried noodle dish using yakisoba noodles, mixed vegetables including sliced yellow onion, cabbage, and celery, and a simple sauce blend of soy and oyster sauces. The dish has tender noodles with slightly charred vegetables, delivering a savory, rich taste typical of takeout chow mein. It's practical for weeknight dinners or as a side when craving familiar American-Chinese flavors at home.

Description

The recipe uses pre-packaged yakisoba noodles without their seasoning packets to achieve a neutral noodle base. Vegetables like yellow onion, cabbage, and celery are stir-fried in hot oil until soft with some charring, which brings out their natural sweetness and adds texture contrast. The noodles are then tossed in along with soy sauce and oyster sauce to coat everything evenly, producing a savory, slightly sweet, and umami-rich noodle dish.

The stir-frying method ensures a combination of textures: the vegetables retain slight crunch while the noodles are tender but not mushy. This recipe mimics the flavor profile and mouthfeel of the popular Panda Express version, suitable for those looking to replicate a takeout favorite.

For noodle variations, Chinese chow mein or egg noodles can be substituted by following their package instructions before stir-frying. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh textures and flavors.
