Paratha

Paratha is a layered Indian flatbread made by rolling and cooking dough balls of wheat flour, salt, oil, and water. The bread is pan-cooked and repeatedly brushed with ghee to develop golden, crispy layers that are soft inside, suitable for serving alongside savory dishes.

Description

This Paratha recipe begins by mixing wheat flour, salt, and cooking oil with water to form a soft dough, which rests briefly before kneading. Small dough balls are rolled out thinly, and cooked on a medium-heat non-stick pan until opaque before flipping. Ghee is applied multiple times during cooking, creating layers and a crisp, golden-brown exterior while keeping the inside tender.

The process of flipping and brushing with ghee ensures a flaky, layered texture characteristic of paratha. The bread can accompany curries or be enjoyed with yogurt or pickles as part of a meal.

Although nutritional details are provided as a courtesy, the recipe focuses on traditional preparation techniques for this versatile flatbread.
