Peanut Butter Blossom Bars
Description
This recipe for Peanut Butter Blossom Bars starts with creaming softened butter and peanut butter, then beating in sugars until fluffy for a light texture. Eggs and vanilla extract are incorporated before folding in a mixture of flour, baking soda, and salt. The dough is pressed evenly into a 9x13 inch baking dish and sprinkled with sugar to create a slightly crunchy surface.
After an initial 20-minute bake, Hershey kisses are pressed firmly into the warm bars allowing them to melt slightly and adhere securely upon cooling. A short additional bake ensures the kisses meld with the bars without losing their shape. Once fully cooled, the bars are cut into squares for serving.
The combination of creamy peanut butter in the cookie base and the milk chocolate from the kisses creates a harmony of flavors and textures, with a tender, moist bar and a soft, melting chocolate topping. These bars make a nostalgic and satisfying treat for peanut butter and chocolate lovers.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- ¾ cups peanut butter creamy
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar packed
- 2 egg large
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons sugar for sprinkling
- 20 hershey kisses
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.
- Beat the butter and peanut butter in the bowl of an electric mixer until creamy and combined.
- Add the sugars and beat on medium speed until fluffy, for 5 full minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating until each is combined. Add in the vanilla extract. Beat in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Press the cookie dough into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle all over with the 2 tablespoons of sugar. Bake for 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes, remove the dish and press the hershey kisses into the bars, doing four in a row, leaving about an inch between each. Make sure you press it far enough into the dough so it can melt a bit and be secure once the bars cool. Return the bars to the oven and bake for another 2 to 4 minutes.
- Remove and let cool completely. Slice into bars and serve.
