Peanut Butter Cookies

These Peanut Butter Cookies are soft yet slightly crisp at the edges, made by creaming together sugars, butter, shortening, peanut butter, and eggs. Flour and baking soda provide structure and leavening. Shaped into balls and flattened with a fork in a classic crisscross pattern, they bake quickly to golden edges with a firm but tender center. Their balanced sweetness and peanut flavor make them a straightforward snack or dessert.

Description

The cookie dough is made by creaming together sugar, brown sugar, butter, and shortening until smooth, then blending in eggs, peanut butter, and vanilla extract for flavor. Dry ingredients including flour and baking soda are sifted in to avoid lumps and mixed to just combine, preventing toughness. The dough is portioned into balls and pressed down with a fork to create a traditional pattern and ensure even baking.

Cookies bake at 375°F for about 10 minutes, developing lightly browned edges and a set center. This moderate baking time keeps the cookies tender inside while giving a satisfying texture contrast. The inclusion of both butter and shortening balances flavor and softness.

Ideal for peanut butter lovers looking for a classic American cookie, they serve well with milk or as a portable sweet treat.
