Peanut Butter Popcorn
Description
This recipe starts by popping 10–11 cups of popcorn and placing it in a large bowl. The peanut butter sauce is prepared by heating honey and sugar, then boiling briefly before removing from heat and stirring in creamy peanut butter and vanilla extract for a smooth, sticky coating.
The sauce is gradually poured over the popcorn and gently stirred to ensure even coverage without crushing the popcorn. Optional toppings like Reese's Pieces can be mixed in before the popcorn cools and the coating sets. The result is a sweet and slightly nutty snack with a satisfying blend of crunchy and creamy textures.
Peanut Butter Popcorn stores well in an airtight container for up to one week and can be customized by adding pretzels or other candies like M&M’s or chocolate chips for new flavor combinations. It's ideal for snack times, parties, or as a fun treat.
Ingredients
- 10-11 cups Popcorn popped
Peanut Butter Sauce:
- 1 cup honey
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup peanut butter creamy
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 cups Reese's Pieces , optional
Instructions
- Pop popcorn and add to an extra large mixing bowl.
- Peanut butter sauce: In medium saucepan over medium heat add honey and sugar and stir well to combine. Bring to a boil then boil for 2 minutes, stirring. Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
- Combine: Slowly pour HALF of the peanut butter sauce over the popcorn and gently stir to coat. Drizzle more peanut butter sauce, until your desired coating is reached (you may not use it all, depending on preference). Add Reese's pieces, chocolate chips or other candy, if desired.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before eating.
Notes
- This recipe yields about 10 cups of popcorn, with a serving size of 1 cup.
- Store the popcorn in an airtight container for up to one week to maintain freshness.
- For a fall party mix, substitute 1 cup of popcorn with pretzels and add candy corn and Reese's Pieces or M&M's.
- After coating with peanut butter sauce, you can add toppings like M&M's, Reese's Pieces, chocolate chips, or chopped Butterfinger.
- For a chocolate twist, allow popcorn to cool completely, then drizzle with melted chocolate.
