Peanut Butter Texas Sheet Cake

Peanut Butter Texas Sheet Cake is a moist, rich chocolate cake with peanut butter melted into the batter and a thick peanut butter frosting. Baked in a large sheet pan, the cake has a tender crumb and glossy frosting that sets with a slight thickness. This cake offers a baked chocolate-peanut butter combo that is well-suited for parties and casual gatherings.

Description

The Peanut Butter Texas Sheet Cake blends classic chocolate cake ingredients with creamy peanut butter both in the batter and frosting. The cake batter mixes sugar and flour dry and separately combines eggs, baking soda, and sour cream. Melted butter, peanut butter, and water are boiled and stirred into the dry ingredients before blending with the wet. The batter bakes for about 20 minutes in a greased sheet pan until a toothpick comes out clean.

The frosting is cooked by boiling butter, peanut butter, and milk, then mixing in powdered sugar and vanilla, resulting in a thick, smooth frosting spread over the warm cake to set with a glossy finish. The combination yields a tender cake with deep peanut butter and buttery chocolate flavors and a creamy, thick frosting.

This sheet cake cuts into squares ideal for sharing. It is a good choice for gatherings or any occasion needing a crowd-pleasing dessert. The size and straightforward baking method make it practical for home bakers wanting a substantial peanut butter chocolate cake without complicated layers.

Ingredients

Servings

Cake:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup sour cream light or regular
  • cup peanut butter creamy
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup water

Frosting:

  • ½ cup butter
  • cups peanut butter creamy
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 2 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. For the cake, in a medium bowl combine the sugar and flour. In a large mixing bowl mix eggs, baking soda, and sour cream well. Set aside. In a small saucepan combine peanut butter, butter, and water. Bring to a boil. Stir the boiled peanut butter mixture into the flour mixture. Add to the sour cream mixture. Mix well. Pour into a lightly greased 11X17 inch sheet/jellyroll pan.
  2. Bake 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. For the frosting, while the cake is baking, combine the butter, peanut butter, and milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Add the powdered sugar and mix well. Stir in the vanilla. The frosting will be thick. Mix well. Pour and spread over cake while both are still warm.
  4. Let the cake and frosting cool completely. Cut into pieces and serve.
