Pear Custard Pie

Pear Custard Pie features thin slices of firm pears baked under a smooth custard made from eggs, milk, sugar, and flour. The custard firms up with a delicate golden top, complementing the tender pears beneath. This pie offers a gentle sweetness and creamy texture, with a subtly fragrant hint of vanilla. It's a good choice when you want a fruit-filled dessert that balances richness with fresh pear flavor.

Description

Pear Custard Pie combines peeled, cored, and thinly sliced pears arranged in a single layer in a round pan. A custard batter, made by blending melted butter, eggs, milk, sugar, flour, salt, and vanilla extract until smooth, is poured evenly over the pears. Baking at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes allows the custard to set and develop a light golden color. Dusting with powdered sugar before serving adds a touch of sweetness and a delicate finish.

The texture contrasts tender fruit slices with a creamy yet firm custard layer, neither too heavy nor overly sweet. The use of pure vanilla enhances the custard's aroma without overpowering the natural pear flavor. This pie is served best slightly warm or at room temperature.

This recipe benefits from using firm pears that hold shape under heat. You can prepare it ahead and reheat gently before serving. Kids can assist with measuring and blending the custard ingredients, making it a recipe that can include helpers easily.
