Pecan Pie
Description
This Pecan Pie begins by toasting whole pecans to enhance their natural flavor and crunch. The filling blends eggs, pitted dates, pure maple syrup, brown sugar, melted unsalted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Toasted pecans are mixed into the crust-lined pan with some reserved for decoration on top. The filling is poured over the nuts, then baked until the center is set but still moist.
The pie offers a blend of buttery, sweet, and caramel-like flavors balanced by the texture of whole pecans throughout and on top. Cooling the pie after baking allows the filling to fully set, preventing it from being overly soft or runny when sliced.
This dessert suits holiday tables or any occasion where a sweet, nutty pie is desired. The natural sweetness from dates and maple syrup replaces corn syrup or refined sugars found in some traditional pecan pies.
Ingredients
- 1 ounce pie crust thawed according to package directions (tin pan, prepared
- 3 cups pecans whole
- 3 egg
- ¾ cup dates pitted
- ¾ cup pure maple syrup
- ¼ cup light brown sugar packed
- 2 tablespoons butter melted, unsalted
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Place the pecans on a rimmed baking sheet and toast for 18 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- To the container of a high speed blender, add eggs, dates, maple syrup, brown sugar, butter, vanilla extract and salt. Process for 2 to 3 minutes, or until smooth.
- Add about 2 ½ cups of toasted pecans to the prepared pie crust. Reserve the full pecans for decorating. Pour the egg mixture over the pecans, then gently shake the pan to spread the filling into an even layer. Use the remaining pecans to decorate the top of the pie.
- Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the center of the pie is set. Let cool for about 1 hour before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing to ensure the filling is properly set and not runny.
