Stromboli

  • 3/4 pound Italian sausage cooked, crumbled and drained, ground
  • 2 tablespoons onion sautéed
  • 1/2 cup peperoncini thinly sliced, Mezzetta brand
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese crumbled
  • 1 can pizza dough refrigerated

Stromboli Topping (Optional)

  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 tablespoon parsley minced
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • sea salt for garnish, Maldon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees with the baking sheet or pizza stone in the oven.
  2. Roll out pizza dough on a floured surface to approximately 16x8 inches. Place stuffing ingredients including ground sausage, sauteed onion, pepperoncini, feta and mozzarella cheese down the center.
  3. Fold over both long sides of the pizza dough and the ends. Carefully flip over, cutting 5-6 slits in the top of your stromboli to allow steam to release. This helps make the dough crispier.
  4. If using topping, which is optional, whisk together egg and heavy cream. Baste on top.
  5. Carefully transfer stromboli to preheated oven. Bake for 14-18 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned and sounds hollow if tapped with a wooden spoon.
  6. If desired, top with additional shredded mozzarella cheese and bake for 1-2 additional minutes or until melted. Top with minced parsley and Maldon Salt.
  7. Allow your Peperoncini Sausage Stromboli to cool for 5 minutes before cutting into slices and serving with marinara sauce.
