Peppermint Brownies

Peppermint Brownies start with a classic fudge boxed brownie base topped with a peppermint-flavored icing and finished with a melted chocolate and butter layer. Crushed candy canes add a crunchy, festive touch. These brownies combine rich chocolate and refreshing peppermint for a holiday treat.

Description

Peppermint Brownies use a packaged fudge brownie mix prepared as directed and baked in a 9x13 pan. After cooling, a peppermint frosting is spread on top, made by beating powdered sugar, softened butter, heavy cream, and peppermint extract. This creamy frosting adds a bright mint flavor and a smooth texture contrast to the dense brownies.

Once chilled, a mixture of melted mini chocolate chips and butter is spread over the frosting. Finally, crushed candy canes are sprinkled on top to add a festive crunch and accentuate the peppermint profile.

This dessert pairs well with holiday gatherings or as a sweet treat with coffee. The brownies can be stored at room temperature or refrigerated, and are suitable for freezing for longer storage.

The recipe notes that the brownie mix typically requires water, egg, and vegetable oil. Storing them in an airtight container helps maintain freshness.
