Pepperoni Pizza Hamburger Helper

This Pepperoni Pizza Hamburger Helper combines large shell pasta, ground beef, diced vegetables, pepperoni, marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and mozzarella cheese for a hearty one-pan meal. The ground beef is browned to develop a deep crust, which adds robust flavor. The dish is finished by melting mozzarella into the hot pasta mixture, yielding a comforting, cheesy casserole reminiscent of pepperoni pizza flavors in a convenient skillet meal.

Description

Pepperoni Pizza Hamburger Helper is a skillet-based dish featuring large shell pasta mixed with browned ground beef, sautéed onions, and bell peppers. Pepperoni slices and marina sauce blend in with Italian seasoning to replicate traditional pizza flavors. The mixture is cooked until most of the liquid reduces, maintaining a thick and hearty texture. Finished off by stirring in shredded mozzarella cheese, the dish achieves a melted, creamy consistency that binds the ingredients together. This recipe provides a satisfying combination of pasta, meat, and cheese, suitable for a family dinner or meal prep.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound large shell pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef lean
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 yellow onion diced, small
  • 1 bell pepper diced, small green
  • 6 ounces pepperoni quartered
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper fresh ground
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese shredded

Instructions

  1. Cook the large shell pasta according to the directions on the bag and drain (do not rinse).
  2. Add the ground beef to a large cast iron skillet (this browns very well) and brown until a deep brown crust appears before breaking the beef apart.
  3. Stir the ground beef and brown until a deep crust appears on about 50 or so percent of the beef.
  4. Remove the beef (you can leave the fat) and add the butter and the onions and bell peppers.
  5. Let brown for 1-2 minutes before stirring, then let brown for another 1-2 minutes before stirring again.
  6. Add the beef back into the pan.
  7. Add the marinara sauce, pepperoni, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper into the pan.
  8. Cook until the mixture is only slightly liquidy (about 75% of the mixture is above liquid), 3-5 minutes.
  9. Add the pasta back to the pan and mix together gently.
  10. Turn off the heat, add in the mozzarella cheese and stir until melted.
  11. Serve immediately.
