PF Chang's Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Description
This recipe replicates the popular PF Chang's Chicken Lettuce Wraps by browning ground chicken in olive oil and then cooking it with minced garlic and diced onion. The sauce consists of hoisin sauce for sweetness and richness, reduced sodium soy sauce for umami and saltiness, rice wine vinegar adding acidity, and freshly grated ginger for warmth. Optional sriracha provides a spicy kick.
Diced canned water chestnuts provide a crunchy texture contrast, and thinly sliced green onions contribute mild sharpness. Seasoning with salt and pepper completes the flavor profile. The cooked mixture is spooned into pieces of fresh butter lettuce, which serves as crisp, cool vessels to enjoy the savory filling without heaviness.
As a manageable handheld dish, these wraps can be served as an appetizer or a light main course, combining a pleasing texture mix and well-rounded Asian-inspired flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 onion diced
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce reduced sodium
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon ginger freshly grated
- 1 tablespoon sriracha optional
- 1 (8-ounce) can water chestnuts drained and diced, whole
- 2 green onions thinly sliced
- salt to taste, Kosher salt and freshly ground
- black pepper to taste, Kosher salt and freshly ground
- 1 butter lettuce head
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the chicken as it cooks; drain excess fat.
- Stir in garlic, onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ginger and Sriracha until onions have become translucent, about 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in chestnuts and green onions until tender, about 1-2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- To serve, spoon several tablespoons of the chicken mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, taco-style.
