PF Chang's Spicy Green Beans

PF Chang's Spicy Green Beans are tender green beans cooked until just soft, then tossed in a spicy, savory sauce made from soy sauce, fresh grated ginger, garlic, rice vinegar, sugar, and black pepper. The sauce is gently warmed before mixing with the beans, which are finished with a garnish of sesame seeds. The occasional addition of red pepper flakes adds a touch of heat. This recipe offers a balance of umami, mild spice, and freshness in each bite and works well as a flavorful vegetable side dish.

Description

This recipe features green beans simmered briefly until tender, then cooled with cold water to stop cooking and maintain color and crispness. The dressing combines dark soy sauce, grated fresh ginger, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sugar, black pepper, and optional crushed red pepper flakes for heat. The sauce is heated over medium-low heat to meld the flavors before coating the drained green beans. The final dish is garnished with sesame seeds for texture and visual appeal.

The green beans retain a slight snap, complemented by the tang and spice of the sauce. The ginger and garlic provide aromatic depth, while the vinegar and sugar balance acidity and sweetness with the salty soy sauce. This side pairs well with Asian-inspired meals or as a fresh vegetable addition to various dinners.
