Pico De Gallo
Description
Pico de Gallo consists of diced Roma tomatoes and red onion finely chopped and combined with jalapeño, cilantro, and garlic to create a fresh salsa. The jalapeño is seeded and chopped finely, allowing control over the spice level. Lime juice brightens the mix while salt and black pepper bring balance to the flavors.
The salsa’s fresh, crisp texture contrasts with its tangy and mildly spicy flavor, making it a refreshing condiment. It is tossed and chilled briefly to meld the flavors without cooking, preserving the freshness.
This salsa is commonly served with tortilla chips or as a topping for Mexican dishes like tacos, burritos, and salads, offering a zesty complement.
Using grape tomatoes instead of Roma can provide a less mushy texture if desired, with a suggested quantity of 2.5 to 3 cups.
Ingredients
- 5 Roma tomatoes seeded and diced finely
- 1/2 /2 red onion large, diced finely
- 1 jalapeño seeded and chopped finely; use 1/2 if less spicy desired
- 1/2 /2 cilantro bunch, chopped finely
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 /2 lime juiced
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Toss the diced tomatoes, red onion, jalapeno, cilantro, and garlic together. Add the juice of a half a lime and add salt and pepper to taste. Store in the fridge. Serve with chips or on top of salad, burritos, tacos...you name it.
Notes
- For a firmer texture, grape tomatoes (about 2.5 to 3 cups) can be used instead of Roma tomatoes as they hold shape better.
