Pineapple Upside Down Dump Cake

The Pineapple Upside Down Dump Cake layers a buttery brown sugar and pecan base topped with maraschino cherries and drained crushed pineapple, finished with a yellow cake mix and melted butter topping. Baking creates a moist, sweet cake with a caramelized fruit bottom and a crisp golden crust. It can be served warm with vanilla ice cream for a classic dessert experience.

Description

This dessert begins by mixing melted butter with packed light brown sugar, then spreading this over the bottom of a lightly greased 9×13 baking dish. Chopped pecans can be sprinkled evenly on top for added texture. Maraschino cherries and well-drained crushed pineapple are layered next, providing sweet fruitiness and moisture control. The yellow cake mix is evenly sprinkled over these ingredients, which creates the crumb topping when baked.

Drizzling melted butter over the cake mix helps it brown evenly and contributes to a tender crumb. Baking at 350°F for 40 to 45 minutes results in a golden brown edges and a soft interior with bubbling caramel fruit underneath. Serving the cake hot with vanilla ice cream enhances its sweet and fruity character.

Draining the crushed pineapple thoroughly using a fine-mesh strainer and gentle pressing is important to avoid a soggy cake top and maintain the right crumb texture. Careful spreading of each layer ensures even coverage and a balanced bite of fruit and cake.
