Ingredients

Servings
  • 16 ounces penne pasta
  • 1 pound Italian sausage hot or mild, ground
  • 1 pound ground beef lean
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ green bell pepper diced, large
  • ½ yellow onion diced, medium
  • 4 ounces mushroom sliced
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 14.5 ounce diced tomatoes drained, canned
  • 24 ounce marinara sauce any variety, jarred
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 2.5 ounce pepperoni slices
  • 2 Tablespoons black olive sliced

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain pasta and put it back in the large pot. Set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  3. In a large skillet, brown the Italian sausage and ground beef, crumbling it as it cooks. Drain the grease and let the meat dry on a paper towel lined plate.
  4. Add olive oil to the skillet, and add the green pepper, onion, and mushrooms. Cook over medium high heat, stirring often. Cook for about 5 minutes, until vegetables have softened.
  5. To the large pot of cooked, drained pasta, add in the drained meat, and all the vegetables. Add salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, diced tomatoes and marinara sauce. Stir until everything is combined.
  6. Pour pasta mixture into a 13x9 baking dish. Top with shredded cheese. Add the pepperoni and black olives to the top. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until cheese is melted and lightly browned.

Notes

  • Add or substitute your favorite pizza toppings. Canned or jarred mushrooms can be used instead of fresh!
  • Serve with homemade garlic bread or Olive garden breadsticks.
  • Store leftovers in refrigerator for up to 3 days.
