Pizza Sliders With Hawaiian Rolls
Description
Pizza Sliders With Hawaiian Rolls feature a layering of halved sweet Hawaiian rolls spread with tomato paste flavored with Italian seasoning and onion powder. Pepperoni slices and shredded mozzarella form the main filling, capped with the top roll half. The tops get brushed with a mixture of melted butter and minced garlic, then sprinkled with more seasonings before baking. The sliders bake first covered to meld flavors and soften bread, then uncovered to develop a lightly crisp and golden crust.
The result is a soft, sweet bread complemented by savory, slightly spiced tomato and melted cheese with pepperoni providing a familiar pizza taste in a compact, shareable slider size. The garlic butter topping adds richness and aroma to the golden tops.
Serve these warm as casual finger food at parties or family meals, pairing well with dipping sauces or salads. Garnishes like grated Parmesan cheese or fresh parsley give an optional fresh, salty contrast.
Tomato paste keeps the sliders from becoming soggy compared to saucier tomato sauce. Minced garlic adds fresh flavor to the butter topping, but garlic powder is a convenient substitute. The recipe can be made in a conventional oven or toaster-style air fryer with foil to contain melted cheese for easier cleanup.
Ingredients
- 12 hawaiian rolls 1 package, sweet
- ½ cup tomato paste 1 small can
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning divided
- 1 teaspoon onion powder divided
- 1/4 teaspoon salt divided
- 12-24 lices pepperoni
- 1 ½ cup mozzarella cheese shredded
- 1 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon butter melted
- Parmesan Cheese optional garnish
- parsley optional garnish, spelling corrected
Instructions
- Slice the rolls in half the long way into sandwiches. Use cooking spray to lightly oil the baking dish. Place the bottom half on a lightly oiled baking dish and set aside the top half.
- Spread the tomato paste over the bottom half of the rolls evenly.
- Mix together the Italian seasoning, onion powder and salt. Spread half of the spices evenly across the tomato paste, saving the rest for the top.
- Add the pepperoni evenly over the tomato paste and seasoning. Sprinkle the mozzarella over the pepperoni.
- Place the top half of the rolls on top and gently press down.
- Mix the melted butter and garlic together, then brush the butter mixture over the top of the rolls.
- Sprinkle remaining Italian Seasoning and onion powder evenly across the butter spread.
For The Oven
- Preheat the oven to 350-degrees.
- Cover with foil and place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Garnish with parmesan cheese and parsely if desired.
For The Air Fryer
- Place the sliders in your air fryer in a single layer. Heat the air fryer to 350 degrees.
- Cook the sliders for 4-6 minutes uncovered, or until a light golden brown. Work in batches if your air fryer isn't big enough to place all the sliders in at once. Garnish with parmesan cheese and parsley if desired.
Notes
- Substitute 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder for minced garlic if fresh garlic is unavailable.
- Use tomato sauce lightly instead of tomato paste to avoid soggy sliders.
- Apply foil in an air fryer to keep melted cheese contained and ease cleanup.
- Garnish finished sliders with fresh parsley or Parmesan cheese, if desired.
