Pork Carnitas Tacos

Pork Carnitas Tacos consist of tender shredded pork served on warm tortillas with a combination of spicy tomato salsa, sliced avocado, tomato, lime wedges, finely sliced onion, fresh coriander, and grated cheese. A side of dressed-up canned refried beans adds creamy texture and depth, enhanced with sautéed onions, garlic, cumin, and sour cream. This combination offers varied textures and a balance of savory, spicy, and fresh flavors, suitable for assembling tacos with customizable toppings.

Description

The Pork Carnitas Tacos recipe features seasoned shredded pork as the centerpiece, complemented by spicy tomato salsa and fresh toppings like avocado slices, tomato, lime wedges, onion, and coriander leaves. Warmed corn or flour tortillas serve as the vessel for these elements. The refried beans are elevated by cooking them with garlic, onion, cumin, and sour cream to create a creamy, flavorful side that pairs well with the pork. Together, the components bring a mixture of soft, creamy, and crisp textures and a blend of spicy, tangy, and savory notes.

The beans and pork are prepared separately: the beans are gently sautéed with aromatics and spices before being loosened with sour cream for a creamy consistency. The pork is served warm and ready to pile onto tortillas. Fresh garnishes like onion and coriander bring brightness and crunch, while lime wedges add acidity. The spicy tomato salsa acts as the sauce, adding heat and moisture.

This dish is ideal for casual meals where guests can build their own tacos, adjusting toppings to taste. The combination of rich pork and creamy beans is filling and satisfying, offering varied textures and flavors across each bite. It works well as a complete meal served alongside the fresh toppings and salsa.

When sour cream is unavailable, unsalted homemade broth can be used to adjust the bean consistency cautiously to avoid excessive saltiness. The recipe notes that the canned beans tend to be salty, so seasoning should be monitored. Nutrition per taco is focused on pork carnitas and tortilla only, considering that toppings may vary.
