Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 medium pork chops bone in
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 medium apple cored and sliced
  • 1 small yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 2 prigs rosemary 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary equals 2 sprigs, fresh
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon ground
  • teaspoon nutmeg ground
  • 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • ¼ cup apple butter you can use homemade apple butter or store bought apple butter.

Instructions

  1. Trim the pork chops if needed. Season both sides of the pork chops with salt and pepper.
  2. Place the oil into a large skillet and heat over medium high heat. Add the pork chops to the skillet. Sear each side of the pork chops until brown, about 2-4 minutes per side. Remove the pork chops from the pan, cover and set to the side.
  3. Turn the heat on the skillet to medium and spray lightly with spray cooking oil. Add the sliced apples and onions to the pan. Season the apples and onions with rosemary, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cook until the apples and onions are tender, about 5-6 minutes stirring frequently.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the apples and onions and stir to combine for about one minute. Add the chicken broth and the apple butter to the apples mixture, mixing to combine.
  5. Turn the heat on the pan to medium low. Return the pork chops along with any cooking juices back to the pan. Simmer the pork chops in the broth mixture on medium/low heat until the pork chops are fully cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. When finished the pork chops will have an internal temperature of 145F when measured with a meat thermometer. Serve the pork chops with the sauce and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can swap in apple sauce for apple butter. I recommend using 1/3 cup of applesauce in place of the 1/4 cup of apple butter.
  • Apple cider can also be used in place of the chicken broth, though the recipe will taste a little sweeter. If you choose to use apple cider, taste at the end and add more salt and pepper if needed.
  • The pork chops will have a slight blush of pink insider, and have an internal temperature of 145F when measured with a meat thermometer. You want that slightly pink color to help the pork chops remain juicy. If you cook the pork chops until they are white all the way through, they will taste dry.
