Powdered Sugar Frosting

Powdered Sugar Frosting blends softened salted butter with powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk to achieve a creamy, spreadable consistency. This frosting can be tinted with food coloring for visual customization. The recipe notes allow for flavor variations by substituting the vanilla extract cautiously with other extracts. It provides a classic sweet topping suitable for cakes, cupcakes, or cookies.

Description

This powdered sugar frosting features a base of softened salted butter beaten together with a large quantity of powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Milk is added gradually to adjust the thickness, aiming for a spreadable texture that is not too runny or stiff. The frosting is typically creamy and smooth, making it easy to apply on baked goods. Adding food coloring can customize the appearance to match themes or preferences.

The vanilla extract imparts a traditional flavor, but the recipe notes include advice for substituting other extracts. Since alternative flavor extracts tend to be stronger, usage should start small and be adjusted carefully to avoid overpowering the frosting. The inclusion of salted butter gives a subtle balancing of sweetness.
