Puppy Chow
Description
This Puppy Chow recipe transforms simple cereal into a sweet treat by first melting chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and butter together over low heat to make a smooth coating. Vanilla extract is added for complexity before pouring this mixture over the Chex cereal, which is stirred gently to ensure even coverage. After coating, the cereal is transferred to a large resealable bag along with powdered sugar and shaken vigorously until every piece is dusted with sugar, creating a lightly sweet, powdery coating that contrasts with the chocolate and peanut butter layer.
The snack has a crispy texture from the cereal combined with the creamy, sweet coating. It can be served right away or cooled on wax paper. Variations include mixing in mini marshmallows, crushed Oreos, or colorful candy pieces to suit different tastes or holiday themes.
Puppy Chow can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for one to two weeks or frozen for longer keeping. It’s a convenient make-ahead snack that’s popular for parties and casual gatherings.
