Puppy Chow (aka Chex Mix Muddy Buddies)

Puppy Chow is a snack made by coating crispy rice Chex cereal with a melted mixture of chocolate chips, chunky peanut butter, and butter, then tossing it with powdered sugar to create a sweet, crunchy, and creamy treat. The coating sets into a powdery shell that clings to the cereal pieces, providing a combination of chocolate, peanut flavor, and a dusting of sweetness all in one bite.

Description

To make Puppy Chow, chocolate chips, chunky peanut butter, and salted butter are melted together gently in a microwave, stirred until smooth, then mixed with vanilla extract. This warm, smooth chocolate-peanut mixture is poured over the rice Chex cereal and gently folded to coat each piece without breaking the cereal.

The coated cereal is transferred to a large resealable plastic bag, where it is combined with powdered sugar by shaking, evenly dusting all the pieces with a fine sweet coating. The result is a crunchy snack with a smooth, slightly sticky chocolate and peanut butter flavor balanced by the sugary powder. It is popular as a casual snack or party treat.

This recipe requires no baking and assembles quickly, making it practical for homemade snacking. Care should be taken to coat the cereal gently to preserve its crunchy texture.
