Ram-Don from Parasite (Jjapaguri with Steak)
Description
Ram-Don from Parasite brings together instant Chapagetti and Neoguri noodles with cubes of well-marbled sirloin steak, creating a fusion noodle dish. The noodles are cooked to just under done, then drained while reserving some starchy cooking water for the sauce. The steak is seasoned and quickly seared to lock in flavor and tenderness. The noodles, reserved water, black bean paste seasoning from Chapagetti, and spicy seasoning from Neoguri are combined with the steak in a pot, stirred until incorporated and slightly thickened, then finished with Chapagetti's seasoning oil for added depth.
The result is a noodle dish with a harmonious balance of the chewy instant noodles and the rich, savory taste brought by the beef and seasoning blends. The spicy notes from Neoguri complement the umami black bean flavor from Chapagetti’s paste. The quick sear keeps the steak tender, while the combined sauce coats the noodles evenly.
This dish is ideal for those who want a quick dinner with the convenience of instant noodles elevated by real beef. It's hearty and flavorful, combining spice, savory black bean notes, and meaty richness in one bowl.
Ingredients
- 1 package chapagetti (instant jajangmyeon noodles made by Nongshim)
- 1 package neoguri (instant jjampong noodles made by Nongshim)
- 8 ounces sirloin steak preferably well-marbled, cut into ½-to-¾-inch cubes, or strip or rib-eye steak
- salt Kosher salt and freshly ground
- black pepper Kosher salt and freshly ground
- 1 to 3 teaspoons vegetable oil (or oil spray)
Instructions
- Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large saucepan or medium pot. Add the noodles and vegetable mix from the noodle packets, and boil for about 2 to 3 minutes until barely al dente (it will cook more later). Strain the noodles into a strainer set over a large measuring cup or bowl. Reserve 1 cup of starchy water.
- Meanwhile season the cubed beef with salt and pepper. Heat the oil over high heat in a skillet. Add the beef, and sear for about 1 to 2 minutes per side, or to desired doneness. Remove from the heat.
- Return the large saucepan or medium pot used to cook the noodles to medium heat, add the reserved water, the strained noodles/veggies, all the black bean paste seasoning powder from the Chapagetti, ½ (or more to taste--it's spicy!) of the spicy seasoning powder from the Neoguri, and the cooked beef.
- Stir for 1 to 2 minutes until everything is incorporated and starting to thicken. Remove from the heat and stir in the seasoning oil from the Chapagetti.
- Transfer to individual bowls and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use well-marbled sirloin or rib-eye for best flavor and tenderness in the steak.
- Reserve some cooking water from the noodles to adjust sauce consistency during mixing.
- Adjust the quantity of spicy seasoning powder to control heat level according to personal preference.
- Stir in the seasoning oil last off the heat to preserve its flavor impact.
