Reader’s Recipes: Swedish Sugar Cookies
Description
This recipe uses softened unsalted butter creamed with sugar, vanilla, and an egg to create a fluffy mixture. Dry ingredients including flour, baking powder (used here instead of cream of tartar), and baking soda are combined separately before blending with the wet ingredients to form a dough.
The dough is rolled into approximately 1½-inch balls, coated in sugar, and baked at 350°F until the edges begin to brown lightly, giving a crisp yet tender texture. The cookies are cooled on a rack to finalize their shape and sprinkled with a bit more sugar while still warm, enhancing their sweetness and providing a subtle crunch on the surface.
Stored in an airtight container, these cookies soften slightly after a few days but remain flavorful. They suit occasions where a mildly flavored, crisp cookie is desired.
