Red Velvet Coffee

This recipe creates a red velvet coffee latte with a creamy whipped creamer tinted red, combined with coffee, milk, white chocolate, cocoa powder, and vanilla. The resulting drink is rich and slightly sweet with chocolate notes and a distinctive red color. It can be served warm topped with the whipped creamer and optionally decorated with chocolate shavings, offering a visually appealing and flavorful coffee variation.

Description

The Red Velvet Coffee combines coffee and milk heated with white chocolate and unsweetened cocoa powder to form a smooth, chocolate-infused base. After heating, red food coloring and vanilla extract are stirred in to produce a vibrant red color and add flavor depth. Separately, a whipped creamer made from full-fat whipping cream, powdered sweetener, and red food coloring is prepared until stiff peaks form.

The latte is poured into cups and topped with the whipped creamer, which complements the warm coffee with its light texture and visual contrast. Optional decorations such as chocolate shavings or sprinkles can enhance presentation.

This recipe can be adjusted by varying the milk type, sweetener, and chocolate amount to suit taste or dietary needs. It can also be served iced by cooling the latte before adding the topping. Using espresso instead of regular coffee provides a stronger coffee flavor, while beetroot powder alternatives offer natural coloring variations.

  • 1 tablespoon powdered sweetener (such as regular sugar or a low-carb sweetener such as allulose)
  • 1-3 drops red food coloring

To make the coffee latte

  • 1 cup coffee
  • cups milk such as regular dairy, almond milk, or coconut milk, of choice
  • 3 oz white chocolate approx. 85 grams, or semi-sweet or dark chocolate bar, broken into small pieces
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder or semi-sweet
  • red food coloring a few drops
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • chocolate optional, shavings or sprinkles to decorate

Instructions

Make the whipped Creamer

  1. Combine the whipping cream, powdered sweetener, and red food coloring in a small cup or bowl. Use a whisk to whip the cream until it forms stiff peaks.

Make the coffee

  1. In a small saucepan, combine coffee, milk, the broken chocolate bar, and the cocoa powder. Bring this to heat under low to medium heat then use a whisk to combine until most but not all of the chocolate is melted.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat, stir in the red food coloring and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the latte into cups, top with the whipped cream, and garnish with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or as preferred. Serve and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Use espresso for stronger coffee taste if preferred.
  • Adjust chocolate and sweetener quantities to suit your liking.
  • Chill the latte for a red velvet iced coffee variation instead of serving warm.
  • Consider beetroot powder or blended beetroot for natural coloring and added nutrition.
  • Choose milk and sweeteners compatible with diet preferences, including keto-friendly options.
