Red Velvet Valentine Cookies
Description
These Red Velvet Valentine Cookies have a tender texture resulting from the balance of flour, cocoa powder, and dairy ingredients. The dough is first chilled to help with shaping and to prevent spreading during baking, ensuring the cookies keep a soft round shape. Rolling the cookies in powdered sugar before baking adds a sweet outer layer that contrasts lightly with the red cocoa dough beneath. The addition of red food coloring provides the classic red velvet look associated with the holiday.
The baking temperature is moderately high to set the cookies in about 15 minutes without drying them out. Once done, the cookies should have a slight chew and softness inside. Their mild cocoa flavor makes them suitable for sharing or gifting, especially around Valentine’s Day or other special occasions.
Serve these cookies with milk, tea, or coffee. Chilling the dough is a key step to control the texture and shape, so plan ahead for the resting time.
